The Zen Planner alternatives most small gyms compare are PushPress, Gymdesk, Wodify, Kicksite, Spark Membership and Svich. The right one depends on your niche (CrossFit, martial arts or a general gym), your active-member count and whether you need a branded app. Zen Planner publishes its prices by active-member tier, so a fair comparison has to use your real member count. This guide gives current prices (as of October 2026), a cost table for a 180-member gym, and a switching checklist.
Paying more each time you add members? Svich GymOS costs a flat $49 a month for up to 250 active members, and you can start free without a card. See GymOS.
#Why do gym owners look for a Zen Planner alternative?
Usually because the bill grows with the gym. Zen Planner prices each package by active members, so every tier you cross raises the monthly fee, and add-ons such as the website or the marketing suite sit on top.
Zen Planner was founded in 2006 by a martial arts school owner and is operated by Daxko, LLC, according to its pricing page (Zen Planner). It counts an active member as anyone with a membership or anyone who attended in the past month; prospects and staff aren’t charged. It’s a mature product with a large feature set, and many boxes and dojos run well on it.
The owners who switch tend to give one of three reasons: the price at their member count, paying for features they don’t use, or wanting a simpler system the front desk can learn in a day.
#Zen Planner pricing: how much does it cost in 2026?
As of October 2026, Zen Planner’s Studio package starts at $99 a month for up to 45 active members, Essentials at $198 and Ultimate at $348. The price rises at each member tier (Zen Planner tier table). The table below shows selected tiers; 46–75, 101–150 and 201–250 are on the same page.
| Active members | Studio | Essentials | Ultimate |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0–45 | $99 | $198 | $348 |
| 76–100 | $189 | $288 | $438 |
| 151–200 | $239 | $338 | $488 |
| 251+ | $289 | $388 | $538 |
Add-ons listed on the same page: a branded mobile app for $39 a month, a website from $99 and the Engage marketing suite from $249. Card processing is priced separately. Zen Planner says it runs month to month, with an annual contract available on request, and it lists no platform setup fee.
Several competitor blogs still quote older Zen Planner prices, including a $99 branded app. Check the official tier page for your own member count before you compare.

#What would each option cost a 180-member gym?
At 180 active members with a branded app, published prices run from about $3,000 to $4,500 a year. Without an app, the cheapest published options sit at $2,400 or less. Svich Starter is $588 a year on monthly billing, or $490 paid yearly.
Without a branded app: Kicksite $2,388, Gymdesk $2,400, PushPress Pro $1,908 a year. Gymdesk figures assume Gymdesk Payments. Native app-store apps aren’t among Svich’s listed features; members use a mobile web portal.
Two things change this picture. First, card processing: a few tenths of a percent on $15,000 a month of dues (180 members at about $83) is real money, so ask every vendor for its rate in writing. Second, growth: if you expect to pass 250 members, price the next tier now, not after you’ve moved.
#How do you pick software like Zen Planner?
Test each shortlisted tool for one week on the five jobs your front desk does every day. The tool your staff use without calling you is the right one.
- Signing up a new member on a real plan, with a trial or a first-month offer, in under five minutes.
- Taking a payment, including a part-payment, and seeing the balance update the same day.
- Freezing a membership for a month and checking that the end date moves.
- Following up on a missed payment and a membership that ends in ten days, without anyone setting a reminder by hand.
- Giving a coach access to class lists and workouts without showing revenue.
A common mistake is to judge on the demo account. Demo data is clean; yours isn’t. Import 20 real members, including two who owe money and one on a freeze, and see what breaks.
#How does Svich compare as a Zen Planner alternative?
Svich GymOS covers the daily core (members, plans, payments, reminders, attendance and workouts) at a flat price per gym, not per staff member and not per member tier up to 250.
- Members: one profile per member with plan, payments, check-ins, workouts, messages and staff notes, plus filters such as ending soon, owe money, lapsed and gone quiet.
- Billing: monthly plans, PT packages, trial passes, installments, freeze days, extensions, automatic invoices and a full payment ledger, with trainer commissions paid from the same ledger.
- Automations: four prebuilt reminders: before a membership ends, after a missed payment, on a birthday and after a lapse, each with its own channel (WhatsApp from your own number, or email) and send time.
- Workouts: build a plan, assign it and let members follow it in the portal with exercise videos attached.
- Classes: a weekly grid and class packs alongside memberships, as an extra module.
Export your members from Zen Planner as a CSV and import them in Svich under Settings → Data & Reports → Imports. Svich suggests plans from the data, so you can test with real records before you cancel. Start free and import a test file.
#When might Svich not be the right fit?
Svich suits single-location gyms that want the essentials at a predictable price. If you need any of these, ask in a demo:
- A branded app in the App Store and Google Play: native app-store apps aren’t among Svich’s listed features; members use the mobile web portal.
- Automatic recurring card or bank debits: payment-gateway auto-debit isn’t among Svich’s listed features, so ask how recurring payments would work for you.
- Several locations: multi-location sits in the Enterprise plan, priced on request.
#How to switch from Zen Planner: checklist
- Check your order form: month to month or annual, and any notice period.
- Ask your payment processor how stored card details move to the new system, and what it costs.
- Export members, plans, balances, attendance and class packs remaining while your account is active.
- Run the new system for one week with 20 real members before you cancel.
- Spot-check 10 balances and end dates by hand after the full import.
- Tell members what changes (login, booking link) and what stays the same (plan, price, renewal date).
Card data is the step most owners forget. Payment tokens usually sit with the processor, not the gym software, so a move can mean asking members to re-enter cards. Plan the message before you switch.
